Apples and lettuce and pears! Oh my!

Damon is hard at work stocking those bananas.

Damon has joined the ranks of the employed.  After completing an online application, a 1 hour aptitude test, two face-to-face interviews, a 4 1/2 hour test and 11 training videos and comprehension tests, Damon was hired to work in the produce department.  Can you imagine the hiring process for a manager?! Damon started 2 weeks ago and seems to be settling in well. He says the  job isn't too demanding which  is great because it leaves him plenty of time for class and studying.  The past couple of months of job hunting has been humbling but I am so proud of him for sticking with it.  And hey there are perks to working at a grocery store...thanks to the 5% employee discount, our consumption of fruits and vegetables may increase this year!  We are truly blessed and feel thankful to have both found jobs.

Heres a thought I am sure you have never....ever....had.
Hey, why the heck did I move all the way across the prime meridian and the equator just to take apples from a box and put them onto a shelf?

My advice is to turn off your brain. I did, back in the eleventh grade and trust me, life has been grand-er since.
The bright side to working at the grocery store is that you probably wont put that one on your resume so leaving on good terms really isnt necessary. Start planning now for fun and creative ways to get yourself fired.
Just think, the next time you play 2 truths and a lie, you can say `Was once fired from an Australian grocery store for riding a shopping cart down aisle 7....nude`

Everyone will surely pick that as your lie, and you will get alot of points.

Congrats to you both! Damon, here's a thought you especially can appreciate...now you know how all of those refugee doctors who spend 10 years driving taxis in their countries of resettlement feel. This is an all-around educational season of life, isn't it?:)

Ah good ole Coles. Way to go Damon for perservering.
I remember walking into the Outback over here and thinking that would hire me right off the bat because I was Australian...alas....several interviews, and numurous tests later....I was hired . . . and humbled!
Hope the jobs continue to go well.

Ok, I was going to comment--- but now I'm laughing at Anita's post.

So....back on topic-- YAY! You rock that produce department young man.

(And by the way-- anyone mistake Amy for your daughter down under? Or is that just a USA thing?) :-)

Damon,
I just found your blog. This is Jeri Ford (Bullock) from Cheyenne. My husband, 2 kids, and I live in PNG, so I guess we're in the same 'neighborhood'. Apparently we have many mutual friends (many who were in Japan)! Weird!! It's good to hear how things are going for you. We're actually taking a vacation in Brisbane right now and Coles happens to be one of our most frequented stops.
